The Beginning or End of Soccer (Football)

Funny?  Indeed.  But if this guy gets away with it, kind of makes the entire sport a joke, no?

More proof on the need to rethink the role of the regulator given the failure of the agents to regulate themselves. Soccer and the NFL stand at opposite ends of the spectrum on this. The latter will tweak any rule at any time in the (perhaps deluded) quest for a more perfect competition. Soccer, on the other hand, has a regulatory apparatus premised on a high degree of sportsmanship and self-regulation that hasn't existed for decades; yet it refuses to do anything meaningful to address the disequilibrium. I'm all in favor of very heavy-handed suspensions after the fact for violations captured on video.

It may not be a perfect game, but could it be funnier and less violent (unless you are a hooligan at the stands) than football?
